Telecom department blocks more than 300 mobile phones and disconnected thousands to control online fraud


DoT Action against Cyber ​​Criminals: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has taken a big step to stop fraudulent activities. Along with blocking the handsets, the department has also started disconnecting those mobile numbers which are involved in fraudulent activities. This will help the government department to provide better protection to mobile users from scammers. Only two months ago, the Department of Telecommunications had launched the Chakshu portal, which could resolve complaints related to fraud.

Government took a big step

According to a report by news agency PTI, the department has blacklisted 52 entities involved in sending malicious and phishing SMS. Along with this, 348 mobile handsets have been blocked across the country. The report quoted official sources as saying that DoT has also marked 10,834 suspicious mobile numbers for re-verification.

The department took action after receiving the complaint

The department has recently responded to a complaint related to phishing on social media platform X. Responding to the post, the department said that the fraudulent mobile number has been blocked. Besides, the handset connected to it has also been blocked.

IMEI numbers of 1.58 lakh mobile devices blocked

To prevent cyber crimes, the department has identified and blocked the IMEI numbers of 1.58 lakh mobile devices. The department has banned mobile connections taken on the basis of fake documents.

so many connections disconnected

It has been said in the report that till April 30, a total of 1.66 crore mobile connections have been disconnected. As per official data claims, of these, 30.14 lakh connections were disconnected based on user feedback and 53.78 lakh were forced to exceed the individual limit to buy new SIM cards.
